Two men, one understood to be a security guard, are recovering in hospital after horrified onlookers witnessed a shock stabbing incident near an inner-city Brisbane supermarket.
A 28-year-old man from Gladstone, Central Queensland attended a Woolworths in South Brisbane at around 4pm on Wednesday where it’s alleged he attempted to steal items.
Initial investigations suggest the security guard, aged in his 30s, and another man, “approached (the) third man who they believed had stolen goods” from the retailer.
It is believed the three men became involved in a “physical altercation” after the pair approached the man, acting under the belief that he was shoplifting.
The security guard suffered a stab wound to the torso during the altercation outside of the supermarket, while the other male victim was stabbed in the arm at a nearby train station after he pursued the fleeing man, police allege.
Both men were taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, where they remain in a stable condition.
The 28-year-old man allegedly fled the scene at South Bank, a popular entertainment and tourist precinct on the Brisbane River, but was arrested by police in Highgate Hill shortly before 5pm.
He has since been charged with two counts of wounding and one count of possession of a knife in a public place and will appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Two crime scenes have been established at South Bank.
